"Stale Crackers and Conversation"
"Stale Crackers and Conversation"
Why are things so different now?
The good times are gone without a moments notice
We move in circles with this pointless dialogue
Somehow expecting it to change
Tiptoe on eggshells lest we should yell
Only to have this fragile existence come crashing down again
This teetering balance, weakened and unjust
We twist, we turn, but never find ourselves
Anywhere we haven't already been before
Swinging back and forth
Somehow we think things could be different
But tomorrow this dance will still be the same
The same old wounds and bitter laughter
The look in our eyes like this really should matter
Remembering the better days
Do we move on or hold back
No one seems to want to say
How do you let go of such an old friend
How do you stay when there's nothing more to be said
Stale crackers and conversation
This night is growing old
And I wonder if these dreams we have will ever take us anywhere
Or do they keep us bound to this place?
Such unbreakable silence
Locking us up and holding us back
Unbearable loneliness and a poisonous storyline
Where will it take us from here?
Circles of time spin around us
Weaving and pulling the strings
Turning and changing
Plain rearranging the reality we once knew
It makes no difference where we are going
If we can't let go of where we've been.
