Foolish Sensibility

Who in the heck said this was easy!?

Ya know, it is my personal opinion that centering a piece of clay on a spinning potters wheel is one of the hardest things to do in the world. I'm not kidding. You just think you've got the dang thing on there dead center... then you sneeze... or breathe... it doesn't matter, 'cause you knocked it off center and have to do it all over again. Even then you aren't likely to get it on there right, so you eventually give up on trying to center it because your clay is gaining the consistancy of sandpaper and is giving you blisters.

So you open up (put a hole in the middle of it). All seems well, but because it's still not exactly centered, that stupid force called inertia decides to mess you up and tries to throw your clay across the room (it's rather interesting when this actually happens, although not much fun to clean up). So you do all you can to keep the darn thing on there, and pray that you might actually make something you will consider keeping.

And then, it happens.

You hit an air bubble in the clay, and the whole dang pot collapses.

You give up. You scrape its sorry remains off the wheel, and head back to the table to squish the guts out of it over and over again (also known as wedging and kneeding, kinda like kneeding bread).

You wonder what is the point. You have been there for an hour, still have nothing to show for it, your muscles are seizing up, and just about everything is seeming pointless.

And then you realize. This is your life. You try to make something out of it. Forces of nature screw it up. You try again. It gets screwed up again. You take out the parts that are causing you issues. You beat the crap out of it. Nothing. All you are left with is a gosh dang wad of mud.

Again I ask: WHAT IS THE POINT!?!
